Free printable garage sale signs for your sale

By Rory at Estate Sale Zone · Published

Every garage, yard, estate and moving sale posted on Estate Sale Zone comes with free printable signs: a details sign with your days, hours and address, and arrow signs pointing left and right, each with a QR code to your sale (you can leave it off). They're PDFs in Letter, Legal, Tabloid (11 × 17 in) and A4 paper, and they print fine in black and white.

Posting is free and needs a free account. It's open for sales in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. Your sale also gets pictures sized for Facebook, Instagram and Nextdoor, and share buttons for each.

What's on the sign

The details sign has the kind of sale in large letters (GARAGE SALE, ESTATE SALE or MOVING SALE), then your sale's title, each day with its own hours, and your address. Each sign also has a QR code that opens your sale's page, with your photos, a map and links to Google Maps and Apple Maps. To print a sign without it, untick “Include a QR code” before you download. A sale whose hours differ by day shows each day separately, so a Sunday that ends early says so.

A yard sale is posted as a garage sale, so its signs say GARAGE SALE. Text is sized to fit the page: a long title wraps onto a second line, and a sale of more than four days is shown as one line (“MON–SUN · 9 AM – 3 PM”).

Arrow signs

Each sale has two arrow signs, one pointing left and one pointing right, printed sideways on the page. They show the sale type, a large arrow, your days and hours, and your street, for the turns between the nearest main road and your house.

Estate sale and moving sale signs

Estate sales and moving sales get the same signs with their own name on them. Choose the kind of sale when you post it, and the signs follow.

Pictures to post online

Your sale also comes with pictures showing its title, days, hours and address, each sized for where you'll post it: tall and square posts for Instagram and Facebook, full-screen pictures for Stories and TikTok, and sizes for X, Pinterest and a Facebook event cover. Share buttons open Facebook, Nextdoor, X, Pinterest, WhatsApp, a text message or an email with your sale already written out; for Instagram and TikTok they hand the picture to your phone's share menu.

What to write on a garage sale sign

Write the kind of sale, the days, the hours and the address, as large as the sign allows, and leave everything else off. Drivers read a sign as they pass, so prices, item lists and phone numbers are too small to be useful; put those on your sale's page instead, which the QR code opens.

Give days, not “this weekend”, which is wrong by Monday if a sign stays up. Use the same design on every sign so drivers can follow them from the main road. The signs we make are laid out this way.

Where you can put up garage sale signs

In most of the cities we cover, put signs only on private property, with the owner's permission, and never on utility poles, street lights, traffic signs or the parkway between the sidewalk and the street. Irvine is the exception: it allows small signs on the ground in the right-of-way during the day.

That makes your own yard the place for the details sign. For arrow signs at corners, ask the neighbors on those corners if you can put one in their yard.

California law makes it a misdemeanor to put a sign on public property without permission (Penal Code §556) or on private property without the owner's consent (§556.1), and attaching anything to a traffic sign or signal is prohibited (Vehicle Code §21464). City by city:

San Diego
No signs anywhere on public property or in the public right-of-way, including poles, curbs, utility boxes and trees (SDMC §142.1206). At a house, one sign of up to 9 square feet is allowed on the property during the hours of the sale (§142.1265). Arrow signs go on private property, with the owner's permission.
Los Angeles
No signs on sidewalks, curbs, street lamp posts, hydrants, trees, utility or telephone poles, or street and traffic signs, and the city can bill you for removing them (Los Angeles Municipal Code §28.04, in the city's code library). On private property you need the owner's consent (§28.03).
Santa Ana
No signs on telephone poles, street lights, traffic signs or anything in the public right-of-way. Signs can go up a week before the sale and must come down the day after. Garage sales are allowed only on the first full weekend of March, June, September and December (City of Santa Ana).
Irvine
Small temporary signs on the ground (up to 3 feet tall and 3 square feet) are allowed in the right-of-way or on private property with consent, between 7 am and 7 pm, one per change of direction, but not in center medians or on traffic signals or utility poles (Irvine Zoning Code §7-3-3, sign type 106).
Anaheim, Chula Vista and Huntington Beach
We couldn't confirm these cities' sign rules from their published codes, so check with the city before you put signs up. Anaheim publishes a garage sale handout, and Chula Vista requires a free garage sale license.

Checked against each city's published code or website on 8 October 2026. Rules change and this isn't legal advice; your city has the final word. Take your signs down when the sale ends.

Questions

Is it free?
Yes. Posting a sale, the signs, the pictures and the share buttons cost nothing.
Why do I need an account?
The signs are made from your sale, so they stay with it. They're under Your sales whenever you sign in, on any phone or computer, if you need to print more.
Where can I post a sale?
San Diego (including Chula Vista), Los Angeles, and Orange County (Anaheim, Santa Ana, Irvine and Huntington Beach).
When can I print them?
As soon as your sale is live, which is usually right after you post it. If we can't confirm the address automatically, we review the sale first, and the signs appear once it's published.
How do I keep paper signs dry?
Slip each one into a clear sheet protector, or tape it to a piece of cardboard and cover it with packing tape.

Post your garage sale

Posting is free and takes a few minutes. Your sale appears on the map and in shoppers' sale alerts, and its signs and pictures are ready as soon as it's live.
